Murari Band

Murari Band originally formed in 1977. Balabhadra dasa and Naradi devi dasi were two of the founding members of the Murari Band and they have been performing and writing Vedic-based songs together for more than thirty five years.

In the early Eighties the Murari Band was joined by guitarist Hasyagrami dasa, who was fixture in the New York music scene during the late Sixties.

Murari Band released two LPs and several cassettes during the late 70s and mid 80s. One of their songs, 'Political Man' received national exposure. Another one of their songs 'Things Ain't What They Used To Be' was played on the Rosie O'Donnell show. What started out so many years ago has greatly grown and matured. Murari Band established itself as a one of the most creative and prolific bands in the Atlanta music scene and their original recordings have become collector items for their numerous fans worldwide.

Murari Band changed their name to New Money Band for a short period in the mid 80s and quickly became recognized by Creative Loafing magazine as the best up and coming band of 1984. The group released a cassette entitled “Something of Value” and was also featured on a compilation LP with some of the most popular local Atlanta bands during that time period. They also performed at the Piedmont Arts Festival and at most of the local rock clubs.

Balabhadra dasa, Naradi devi dasi and Hasyagrami dasa are direct disciples of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada and have been practicing kirtan for more than 40 years as part of the Atlanta Hare Krishna Temple community.

Though Hasyagrami prabhu left his body in January 2015 in Sri Dham Mayapur, Balabhadra prabhu and Naradi prabhu decided to continue on with the band.

Shanti Keshavi devi dasi, who is an accomplished bass player with a unique background in rock and various other styles having played in several successful bands, joined in Dec. 2012. Her vocals and playing style perfectly blend with the band.

The latest addition to the band is guitarist, Bhakta Tim.  We're so happy and excited to him share his talents with us!

This group of Hare Krishna devotees are totally dedicated to bringing to the general mass of people, the pure transcendental blessing of sacred Kirtan. Historically, kirtan has been the prime process for liberating the consciousness of the people in general and Murari Band intends to lead this effort in a big way.

Murari Band gatherings are gaining a reputation for elevating the spirit and consciousness of the participants.  You can stay connected through this website for all upcoming Kirtans and other events.
